No. 4 in the seedings, but No. 1 in the state when it was all said and done.
The Wheeling Central Catholic High School softball team captured the WVSSAC Class A state championship Friday afternoon with a 12-2 win over top-seeded Wahama in South Charleston. It was the second time in two days that the Maroon Knights easily handled Wahama, beating them 8-0 earlier in the bracket.
Wahama was able to jump out to a quick 2-0 lead Friday in the championship game, but Central ran away from there, tying the game with two runs in the top of the third, adding three runs in the six and a whopping seven runs in the seventh.
Morgan Miehle drove in four runs on a pair of doubles for Central, while Olivia Kiaski allowed just one earned run on seven hits in the pitchers circle.
