WHEELING - Wheeling Police Detective Sgt. Rob Safreed decided to wear a t-shirt representing his department because he is proud of it and the work he does there.
Safreed was preparing to run the Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon Classic with his friend and co-worker, WPD Deputy Chief Josh Sanders.
"I'm very proud of our department and the profession. It's good to represent what you're proud of," he said.
Safreed has worked 16 years for the department. He is a Wheeling Park High School 2004 graduate. He also graduated from West Liberty University with a degree in biology.
Safreed said he enjoys the challenge of the race.
"There's a lot of training involved: long runs on the weekend and shorts runs during the week," he said. "The worst part of the race is 29th Street Hill or Wheeling Hill at the end because you're all tired."
Safreed noted his fellow officers along the course are always supportive.
"They cheer you on for sure," he said.
