Wise wins Brooke County GOP vote
WELLSBURG — Incumbent Brooke County Commissioner Stacey “Hukill” Wise is on her way to another term.
Wise, a Follansbee resident, defeated Kevin Himmelrick in Tuesday’s Republican primary. She received 601 votes, while Himmelrick collected 564 votes, according to unofficial results from the Brooke County Board of Elections.
No Democrat filed the seat, which means Wise will be unopposed in the Nov. 3 general election.
“I’m grateful for the outcome,” Wise said Tuesday night. “I am thankful for the support the community has given me through the years.”
Wise cautioned that even though Tuesday’s numbers were in her favor, her winning margin was close — 51.6 percent to 48.4 percent — and the votes would still need to be canvassed.
A lifelong resident of Brooke County who is originally from Wellsburg, Wise has served as a commissioner since 2015. She brings more than 40 years of bookkeeping, budgeting, management and secretarial experience to the position, as well as experience in building and construction, maintenance and interior decorating.
Wise has been an employee of Colonial American Development for more than 30 years and is the office manager of the Rockdale Village Senior Complex.
She had said during the campaign that she is committed to improving her community and the lives of her fellow citizens.
“I will continue to work to the best of my ability to see my community grow,” she said Tuesday night.
