Algae Bloom Affecting Wheeling Water Taste And Odor; City Says It’s Safe To Drink
An algae bloom in the Ohio River is affecting the taste and odor in the Wheeling Water Department’s system, according to a statement from the city, but the water remains safe to drink.
The water department is making moves to alleviate the situation, the city said. It is increasing the amount of well water in the system, flushing the system out and other treatment measures.
“The water is tested in the system and at the treatment plant every day to ensure the safety of Wheeling water customers,” the statement read. “We understand that it is not ideal, but the water is safe to use and drink.
