WHEELING, W.VA – West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC) has announced the selection of Andrew Langrehr as the College’s ninth president. Langrehr will officially assume the role in August following the retirement of current President Daniel Mosser.
Following a national search, Langrehr was recommended by a presidential search committee made up of Board of Governors members, WVNCC Foundation Board members, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community representatives. The recommendation was unanimously approved by the WVNCC Board of Governors and then approved by the West Virginia Community & Technical College System during its meeting Thursday.
Langrehr currently serves as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at St. Louis Community College, where he has worked since 2001 in a variety of leadership positions spanning faculty, departmental, campus, and district administration.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Langrehr to West Virginia Northern Community College,” said Jacob Altmeyer, Chair of the WVNCC Board of Governors. “Throughout the search process, Dr. Langrehr demonstrated a deep understanding of the important role community colleges play in transforming lives and strengthening regional workforce development. His extensive experience in academic leadership, strategic planning, student success initiatives, and community partnerships makes him an outstanding choice to lead Northern into its next chapter.”
“I am excited to join the team at WVNCC and contribute to the great work already underway across this remarkable college community,” Langrehr said. “I look forward to building on Northern’s strong foundation as a regional workforce developer with a student-centered approach.”
As Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at St. Louis Community College, Langrehr oversees campus presidents, online education, institutional research, curriculum and assessment, the dean and director of STLCC South County, and the ombudsperson. He has played a key role in policy development, accreditation compliance, governance restructuring, and strategic planning across the multi-campus institution.
Among his accomplishments, Langrehr spearheaded districtwide Guided Pathways implementation, aligned Academic Affairs into six schools connected to meta majors, expanded co-requisite developmental education and academic support services, launched no-cost College Prep courses, strengthened program review processes, and led the governance transition to a senate model. Under his leadership, the college increased graduation rates, expanded high-demand career program capacity, and grew enrollment in high school partnership programs.
Langrehr holds a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, a Master of Science in Chemistry from the University of Iowa, and a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Central College.
Prior to his current role, Langrehr served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Meramec Campus, Academic Dean for Science and Technology, and Department Chair of Physical and Engineering Sciences. He also served as an associate professor, assistant professor, and chemistry instructor. Earlier in his career, he taught chemistry at Jefferson College and Kirkwood Community College.
Mosser, who is retiring after a 41-year career in higher education and serving as WVNCC president since 2019, will continue in his role through the summer to assist with the leadership transition.
