WHEELING - Police in Wheeling responded to a domestic incident early Monday evening in the Elm Grove neighborhood, where two people were reportedly stabbed.
An officer on a motorcycle who had responded to the domestic call was also involved in a minor collision with a vehicle, but was not seriously injured, police officials noted.
Philip Stahl, public information officer for the Wheeling Police Department, said that the initial call about a domestic incident was received at about 5 p.m. Monday. Officers responded to the location at an apartment in the 2100 block of National Road in Elm Grove.
"We arrived on scene and determined that a man stabbed two individuals," Stahl said Monday night. "Those two people were taken to (WVU Medicine) Wheeling Hospital to receive treatment, but their injuries do appear to be non-life-threatening."
One individual, a male who has not yet been named, was apprehended but also had to be taken to the hospital, as well, Stahl said.
"The male suspect was taken into custody, and charges are pending," he explained Monday night. "But there has to be a medical assessment on him - he’s at the hospital right now. Then we’ll be working to file charges, and he’ll probably be going to the Northern Regional Jail."
Stahl said the name of the suspect will not be released by the police department until charges are filed.
"The incident remains under investigation by police," he said.
Both victims of the apparent stabbing incident and the suspect were taken to the hospital, as was one of the responding policemen. None of them were believed to have life-threatening injuries.
"One of our officers riding on a motorcycle who was responding to the call somehow got into a minor collision with a vehicle in the area," Stahl said. "I really don’t have much information on that, but there was a crash involving the officer on the motorcycle. He was taken in for a medical evaluation, as well, but he should be OK."
Stahl said he believes the collision occurred at the time the officer on the motorcycle was providing an escort for one of the victims from the domestic stabbing incident who was being transported to the hospital.
