WHEELING -- The Ohio County Democratic Party has a new chairman as the 2026 general election approaches.
Warwood resident Tony Edmond, an attorney, has taken the helm of the county party.
Serving alongside Edmond will be Vice Chair Teddie Grogan, Secretary Aryanna Islam and Treasurer Jack Cook. Other members of the Ohio County Democratic Executive Committee include former Wheeling Mayor Glenn Elliott, Gail Kahle, Jenny Craig, Fuzz Larue and Barb Larue.
The committee also has vacancies. Openings are available for one male and two female members in each of magisterial districts 1 and 2.
District 1 includes voting precincts 5, 4, 4D, 10, 11, 12, 13, 13A, 143, 146, 158 and 161. It includes Valley Grove, Triadelphia, Clearview, Warwood and much of rural Ohio County.
District 2 includes downtown Wheeling, Wheeling Island, Woodsdale, parts of Oglebay, Dimmeydale and portions of the National Road area.
District 3 residents vote in precincts 77, 104, 104A, 103, 127, 129, 130, 141, 135, 137, 148 and 107. The district includes South Wheeling, Bethlehem, portions of the Claytor/Washington Avenue area and much of the Elm Grove neighborhood.
Edmond is a Pittsburgh native. He graduated from Duquesne University School of Law in 2011 and soon afterward accepted a position with the Orrick law firm in Wheeling. In 2013, he and his family relocated to the Ohio Valley and eventually purchased their Warwood home in 2015.
As chairman of the Ohio County Democratic Party, Edmond said he hopes to “build coalitions.”
“I think we’re in a position now to show that Democrats care about what happens to residents of this county,” he said. “Our strategy is to make sure our Democratic candidates and already elected officials are already out there making this county a better place to live and raise children and make it attractive for others to come here.
“We have a major coalition to build a major coalition of people who are looking to make this a better place to live. So our strategy is building coalitions and being there for one another because Democrats care about people.”
Edmond said he has been speaking with committee members and others in the community to find residents interested in serving on the Ohio County Democratic Executive Committee.
“We will find good-hearted people who are kind-natured,” he said. “We will build a coalition of people who want to make this a better place to live.”
