WHEELING - The Wheeling Police Department is investigating the death of a man following an apparent bicycle accident on Heritage Trail near the Interstate 470 bridge in South Wheeling this weekend.
Police officers and personnel from the Wheeling Fire Department initially responded to a report of a medical emergency on the trail at approximately 5:20 p.m. Saturday, July 11, before determining the incident involved an apparent bicycle accident. The man later died from his injuries.
The police department has not released the name of the man.
According to Philip Stahl, public information officer for the Wheeling Police and Fire departments, noted that there is no ongoing public safety concerns related to the incident, and Heritage Trail is open to the public.
