The rain and lightning that moved into the Ohio Valley on Saturday evening forced the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra to cancel its July 4 concert at Wheeling’s Heritage Port, the WSO announced on its social media.
“This is a highlight for the WSO every year and we are deeply sorry to make this call, but the safety of our patrons, musicians, and all others involved comes first,” the WSO wrote.
A decision on whether the fireworks scheduled for tonight will go on as planned has yet to be made, the WSO wrote. That will be decided as it gets closer to nightfall. According to the National Weather Service, a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 9 p.m. Saturday.
