STEUBENVILLE -- A Dillonvale man was killed Sunday night in a two-vehicle crash on County Road 10 in Smithfield Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at about 8:22 p.m. Aug. 16, approximately two-tenths of a mile west of Ohio 152. Corey Shetler, 29, of Dillonvale, a passenger in the one of the vehicles, died from injuries sustained in the crash. He was pronounced dead at 9:38 p.m.

Troopers said Matthew DiLoreto, 27, of Mingo Junction was driving a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Jefferson County Road 10, while Harley Crawford, 28, of Adena was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier westbound.

According to the patrol, the Silverado failed to negotiate a left curve, traveled off the right side of the road, overcorrected and crossed the centerline. The right side of the pickup then struck the right-front of the Cavalier.

Shetler was a passenger in the Cavalier, according to the patrol.

The Silverado continued off the left side of the road into a ditch and stopped facing west. The Cavalier remained in the westbound lane and partially off the roadway.

Alcohol was identified as a contributing factor in the crash, according to the patrol. Several area fire, EMS and law enforcement agencies assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
