The First Judicial Circuit Court Judges did not have to look far to find the person to replace retiring Ohio County Circuit Clerk Brenda Miller. First Judicial Circuit Court Chief Judge Joseph E. Barki III announces the appointment of Ella McCardle to the position effective Monday.
McCardle, an Ohio County resident, spent seven years as Deputy Circuit Court Clerk to Miller. She most recently served as administrative assistant to Circuit Judge David J. Sims.
"I am honored that the First Circuit Court Judges have put their faith and trust in me to manage the circuit court staff and functions for Ohio County,” McCardle said.
McCardle will fill Miller’s unexpired term, which extends through 2028.
McCardle’s selection to the job came via a unanimous vote of First Judicial Circuit Court Judge Jason A. Cuomo, Judge Michael J. Olejasz, Sims and Barki. She brings more than 15 years of legal and court experience to the position.
While working for Sims, McCardle managed the Court docket, scheduling, case coordination, e-filing, and all administrative functions. McCardle began her career as a paralegal in private practice. She is married to Micah McCardle, and together they have a family of seven children and four grandchildren.
“Today's appointment has special personal significance to me,” McCardle said, “as this appointment comes on my mother's birthday. My mother, who I lost in September of 2025, was very dear to me and I miss her every day. This honor brings a sense of joy, meaning, and connection on an emotional day."
Miller, who retired Friday, spent 28 years in the office.
