Midwest Shooting Center Expected To Move Into Guntry Building

TRIADELPHIA - A growing Ohio-based shooting range operator is about to take a shot at setting up in the former Guntry building at The Highlands.
Midwest Shooting Center, based in Cridersville near Lima, Ohio, launched a Facebook page late last week for "Midwest Shooting Center Wheeling" announcing the business was coming to the greater Wheeling area. The ads have been popping up in local feeds.
Midwest Shooting Center already has five locations in Ohio, three in Indiana, two in Michigan, one in Montana, and one each in South Dakota and Wisconsin. The closest location to Ohio County is in North Pittsburgh, its only location in Pennsylvania.
The company now lists a future location in "Wheeling, West Virginia" on its website, and included with it is a link to apply for jobs.
"We're bringing our modern range, retail, training, and membership experience to the Greater Wheeling community, and we couldn’t be more excited," the posting reads.
Midwest Shooting Center facilities are closed on Mondays and couldn't be reached for comment on Monday. The building is owned by the Regional Economic Development Partnership in Wheeling. Josh Jefferson, president of RED, didn't return calls seeking comment on Monday.
Ohio County Commissioner Randy Wharton, also president of the Ohio County Development Authority, said he was aware of the attempts to bring Midwest Shooting Center to the building. RED is finalizing the deal.
"We (the OCDA and RED) are working with them to put the pieces together," he explained. "The Facebook announcement is good. The final contract isn't in place, but we expect it to be soon.
"The plan in the works doesn't include Midwest Shooting Center taking over the whole building. Other parts hopefully will be occupied by other tenants."
He added the OCDA will continue to work with RED to find others interested in locating within the facility.
When contacted, RED COO Craig O'Leary said he had no details about the deal.
Guntry first opened its shooting range facility at The Highlands in March of 2025. It closed 14 months later in May 2026. The building has 18 25-yard shooting ranges and four 100-yard ranges inside its walls.
In its beginning, it also had an archery room that could be transformed into a tactical shooting house for law enforcement training. There is also a 48-seat cafe with full kitchen in the facility, as well as a tactical simulator room and an 80-seat classroom that can be used for instruction or private functions.
