Mount de Chantal Kroger Celebrates Multimillion-Dollar Renovations

After months of work, the Kroger grocery store on Mount de Chantal Road celebrated the fruits of that labor, the results of a $1.9 million renovation that gave a new look to the store’s entire interior.
Several officials from Kroger’s Columbus Division joined members of the Mount de Chantal Kroger’s staff and others to cut the ribbon commemorating the occasion.
“Everything is brand new,” said Mark Bruce, head of communications and public affairs for Kroger’s Columbus Division. “It really has that fresh, clean feel. Our stores that get that are the stores that are popular and that have a lot of customers that walk through the door, and this store does that.”
The biggest changes came in what the store calls the “fresh section,” the side of the store that houses the bakery, the produce and its Murray Cheese display. The Murray display now has a huge sign over it, while the rest of the area has new tables and new decor throughout.
In the rest of the store, the items in the middle aisles have all been rearranged. Bruce said the process to move those items led to confusion for shoppers, and the company appreciated their patience, but now everything is where it should be. New signage also can be seen throughout the store, which also has new shopping carts, replacing some of the older carts that had gotten noisy and hard to push.
Employees offered free samples throughout the store, while outside, the Linsly marching band played for the ribbon-cutting. Kroger officials presented the band with a $250 donation, a $250 gas card was given away, and Kroger also donated $5,000 to the Mountaineer Food Bank. The first 50 customers in line at 9 a.m. also received $10 gift cards.
The Mount de Chantal Kroger is a popular destination for shoppers, and Bruce said much of that has to do with the relationship the staff has with those who come through the doors.
“The biggest thing is the connection between our associates and our customers,” he said. “You stand at the front door and you’re going to see customers and associates greet each other by name, and our associates know exactly what our customers want and go find it for them. It’s remarkable the relationships that are built in these stores.”
