W.Va. Supreme Court Justice Experiences ‘Medical Incident’ During Oral Arguments

CHARLESTON - The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals canceled oral arguments Wednesday after Justice William R. "Bill" Wooton experienced "a medical incident."

The incident happened during oral arguments Wednesday morning, according to a statement from Jared Hunt, the court's communications director.

Wooton "experienced a medical incident while on the bench. Arguments were stopped and emergency personnel called in to treat the situation," Hunt said.

"Justice Wooton was conscious, alert and conversing with first responders as they treated him. He was then taken to a local hospital for evaluation," he said.

Hunt said Wednesday afternoon that he did not have any additional updates.

Wednesday was the first day of the court's fall term, with arguments in seven cases scheduled.
