MOUNDSVILLE -- People who have old unwanted prescriptions clogging up their medicine cabinets can dispose of them safely during the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at locations across the Ohio Valley.
The West Virginia First Foundation, which is the group disbursing opioid lawsuit proceeds to agencies across the state, is encouraging people to take advantage of such sites.
"National Drug Take Back Day is an important reminder that we all have a role to play in prevention," said Jonathan Board, WVFF executive director. "Unused or expired medications left in our homes can pose serious risks, but safely disposing of them is a simple step we can take to reduce the potential for misuse. We encourage West Virginians to take part in this nationwide effort to help keep our families and communities safe."
According to the DEA, the following take back sites will be available on Saturday:
Mount de Chantal Kroger, Wheeling Police Department; Riesbeck’s Food Store, St. Clairsville, hosted by the Belmont County Sheriff’s Department; Riesbeck’s Food Store, Bridgeport, hosted by the Belmont County Sheriff’s Department; Moundsville Kroger, hosted by the Moundsville Police Department; St. Clairsville Sam’s Club, hosted by the Belmont County Sheriff’s Department; and the New Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department, hosted by the Wetzel County Sheriff’s Department.
“Collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps, and illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container. The cap must be tightly sealed to prevent leakage,” according to WVFF.
