MOUNDSVILLE — The Marshall County Republican Committee hosted a picnic Sunday afternoon for people to meet candidates running for office during the Nov. 3 General Election.

The event was held at Riverfront Park in Moundsville and featured a picnic lunch, chance auctions and live music by Kanawha. West Virginia Secretary of State Kris Warner was also expected to visit and say a few words about the election process and regulations.

Jim Kudlak, chairman of the Marshall County Republican Committee and candidate for the Marshall County Commission, said the committee wants to encourage everyone to get out and vote on Nov. 3. He believes Republicans will see success with Marshall County voters during the General Election.

“The big thing we’ve been concentrating on as a committee is the get out the vote effort,” he said. “We’ve been calling people telling them that. A lot of times what happens, especially with Republicans, is if they think the race is locked up, they will forget to come out and vote. And what we’re trying to tell them is that it’s important to get the vote out.”

Kudlak said people do not have to wait until Election Day to vote; early voting is available now at the Marshall County Courthouse from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

“Don’t sit this one out,” he said.

Some of the candidates in attendance included incumbent Sen. Laura Wakim Chapman, R-Ohio; incumbent Delegate Charles Sheedy, R-Marshall; Toby Heaney, a West Virginia Senate District 2 candidate; Sen. Chris Rose, R-Monongalia; Amanda Lockhart, candidate for Marshall County assessor; Kudlak; and Don DeWitt, a West Virginia House of Delegates District 6 candidate.
