PAUL DePAULIS

Paul Alex DePaulis, 80, of Bellaire, OH, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2014, at the Shadyside Care Center.

Paul was born December 21, 1933, in Bellaire, OH, to the late Paul and Lena Domenick DePaulis.

Preceding him in death was a sister, Marion Zacchini and Brother-in-law, Ernest Zacchini.

Paul was a graduate of Miami University of Ohio with two-year graduate work at the University of North Carolina. He was retired from the Belmont County Health Department. Paul was a member of the NRA, Masonic Lodge of Bellaire and the Bellaire Sons of Italy.

Known to us a “Pap Pap Paul,” Paul spent most of his later years with those he loved, enjoying many evenings at the Sons of Italy playing Bocce Ball with some lifelong friends, hunting on cold December mornings with Jason, gardening some of the best looking tomatoes and peppers, talking guns and sports, or simply spending an evening with Betty watching a new movie. On some special evenings, Paul and Betty would go dancing; and boy, could they dance!

Every year at Christmas, it was always Pap Pap Paul who made sure we followed the rules in opening our gifts – one at a time – so we could not only enjoy everyone’s gifts, but so we could enjoy a longer time together making memories.

For those of us who knew Paul, we loved him for his stubbornness, such as refusing to get an air conditioner in 100 degree heat; and we loved him for his strength and courage to defend his beliefs and family, as well as fight for his health.

We will miss Paul tremendously, his quirks and all. But we will remember that he lived his life well, and each of us will carry a part of him with us every day.

Paul is survived by his loving and devoted wife, partner, and best friend Betty Upperman DePaulis; his daughter Karen and husband Wayne Hardy of Moundsville, W.Va.; a son, Paul D. and wife Rhonda DePaulis of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Glenna and husband Jason Myers of Bethesda, Ohio, Desmen and Trinity DePaulis of Houston, Texas, and Alexis and Madison Hardy of Wilmington, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Colton and Gage Myers.

Family and friends will be received Monday, September 8, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory 441 37th Street, Bellaire, OH, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Reverend Margie Carr officiating.

Interment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in Paul’s name can be made to the Sons of Italy Scholarship Foundation, Bellaire, OH 43906.

Sons of Italy Ritual Service 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
