SALLY WHORTON

Sally Ann (Francis) Whorton, of Moundsville, WV passed away on December 8, after a long and courageous struggle with cancer. She was 69 years old.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Bert Michael Whorton; son Luke and his wife Lee Ann, grandchildren Kaleigh and Gavin of Morgantown, WV; daughter Leslie and her husband Samuel Ames of Moundsville; brother William Francis and his wife Susan of Kannapolis, NC; brother Woodie Francis and his wife Deborah of Avon Lake, OH.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents Clarence Elwood (C.E.) and Doreen Francis, formerly of Thirrd Street, M oundsville. She was born on December 13, 1947 in Wheeling.

A Moundsville High School graduate, Sally went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in Education from West Liberty and a master’s degree in Education from West Virginia University.

Sally’s passion was teaching. She taught for over forty years at First Ward, McNinch, and Central elementary schools in Moundsville.

Sally was also a dog lover and had many faithful companions over the years.

A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday December 13, 2017 from 3 p.m. until time of service at 5 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby Vance Chapels, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville.
