Robert "Bob" Dale Blake, 82, of Weirton, WV passed away Wednesday June 23, 2021 at Trinity West, Steubenville, OH. He was born on July 4, 1938 in Glendale (WV) Hospital to Hilda Wellman and Ivan (IB) Blake. As a child he lived in Rosby Rock and later Roberts Ridge, WV. He grew up with a lot of animals. His pet was Tony the pony. Robert would put out the cows to pasture before going to school. Robert at 13 years old worked at Blakes Gulf Station (owned by his father) after school and weekends. Robert loved all kinds of cars and would race them on the streets with others but the police never caught him. Robert graduated from Moundsville High School in 1956. Robert married Betty Omear and had four children, Scott (Mary Jane), Greg (deceased), Lisa (Larry), and Lane (Teresa). Robert has six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Robert worked for Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company (PPG) for ten years. On weekends Robert would go all over the United States to pick up used cars for Paul Reilly Chevrolet. Robert owned two gas stations. Robert's close friend Roger who worked for United Parcel Service told him their was an opening for Christmas drivers. Robert applied and worked for UPS during Christmas time and was the only one hired full time. Robert got divorced in 1978. Robert saw Athena Kyriakodis working on the roof of Athena's and fell in love with her. The UPS driver for Athena's on Main Street was on vacation. Robert took over and met Athena. Athena was going roller skating in Hookstown, PA and he wanted to take her on February 11, 1978. That was the beginning of every day of dating. September 1, 1979 they got married in All Saints Greek Orthodox Church. Athena as a designer designed his tuxedo. Robert loved to travel. Their honeymoon was a month in Europe. They traveled to eight countries. They left from Paris, France on Queen Elizabeth Boat to New York. Two years later Robert took Athena's mother with Athena to visit relatives in Greece and went on the Unorail train to travel to eight countries. Every vacation Robert and Athena traveled and took the bike for two. UPS gave Robert a big retirement party after 23 years and invited Athena. Robert and Athena rode bikes on many vacations. Robert and Athena did all kinds of exercise and went for walks. Robert, a country boy and man, fell in love with the city. Robert, a country man married a city girl on Main Street. Robert helped Athena with her family business, Athena's (florist, bridal, tuxedo and photography). Robert became a professional photographer for all occasions. Athena's customers and sales people liked Robert and spoke to him all the time. Robert helped Athena's business and took Athena to many business trips. Robert will be missed by Athena's customers and sales people. Robert had to make his own specialty fudge for any group of people. Robert was the oldest of seven sisters and brothers. Ivan R (deceased, Annita), Barbara (Ronnie), Garen (deceased, Wanda), Judy Blake, Becky Blake and Daunetta (Jeff). He had 24 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday June 28, 2021, 2:00-8:00 p.m. at STEEL & WOLFE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 3721 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Trisagion service at 7:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be held Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the funeral at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 3528 West Street, Weirton, WV with Reverend Father Frank A. Milanese presiding. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Greek Section. www.steelandwolfe.com
