Charles (Charlie) David Rose, 79 of Moundsville passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on January 26, 2023, after a lengthy battle with dementia.
Charlie was born on February 2, 1943, in Huntington, WV; the son of the late Rev. Paul Fred Rose and Dorothy Harvey Rose of Huntington, WV.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judith Murphy Rose, a son Charles David Rose Jr. of Aliquippa, PA, daughter Melissa Dawn Rose of Moon, PA, five granddaughters, Allie (Misha) Kleijnjans, Abbey (Damon) Cotton, Audrey (Nick) Korzi, and Emma and Molly Rose, four great grandchildren, Mia and Ethan Kleijnjans, Sadie Cotton and June Korzi, all of Aliquippa and Moon, PA, a sister, Anita Mason (Bill) Stehney of Glen Dale, brothers in laws, Dale (Debbie) Murphy and Tom (Loretta) Lallathin of Sardis, Ohio along with multiple nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his brothers, Homer Martin Pennington and Paul Fred Rose, his sister Mary (John) Rice, brothers in laws, Clarence Murphy, Sam Murphy, Steve Lallathin, Wayne Mason, and John Rice.
As the son of a Methodist minister and loving mother, Charlie developed a strong Christian faith in his home. During his childhood he lived in many locations throughout West Virginia, eventually graduating from Moundsville High School in 1961.
Charlie was known as a hard worker. At 12, he had his first job delivering newspapers and he never stopped working. He met the love of his life, Judy, working together at Elby's Big Boy in Wheeling.
He worked 40 years for PPG Natrium where he was a well-respected employee.
Charlie was known for being a highly active, adventurous man that participated in many hobbies throughout the years. He hunted, fished, skied, camped, scuba dived, ran marathons, vacationed often and loved photography.
One hobby he enjoyed greatly was biking. He and a large group of special friends went on weekly bike rides and traveled to numerous places around the country to bike. He once biked from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC.
Charlie's five granddaughters were the light of his life. He bought a farm in Proctor and loved spending time there, especially with his granddaughters.
He loved to plant gardens and can his vegetables.
He was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge- Marshall Union Lodge No 8, Scottish Rite of Wheeling and Osiris Shiners.
The family would like to thank Marshall County Senior Center FAIR program and caregivers, Sarah Siburt, Bree Mileto and more recent Terry Schwinn for their love and care.
Also, the Amedisys Hospice for their support and care.
Family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville where funeral services will be held Monday at 11am. with Pastor Annette Carper officiating.
Private entombment will be held at the convenience of the family at Riverview Ceme- tery, Moundsville.
