JOAN CARP

Joan Elizabeth (Brzuch) Carp, 88, of Wheeling, WV, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

She was born in Wheeling on September 16, 1934, a daughter of the late John and Ida (Kolakowski) Brzuch. Joan was a devout Catholic and a member of St. John Catholic Church, Benwood. She had an extensive career as a teacher at the former St. Margaret Mary's school in Parkersburg, WV, St. Francis Xavier in Parkersburg, St. Francis of Assisi in St. Albans, WV, Prince of Peace School in Lake Villa, IL, the former St. Anthony's in Follansbee, WV, St. James in McMechen, WV, the former Cathedral Grade School in Wheeling and the former Wheeling Catholic Consolidated School in Wheeling. Joan then moved on to be principle of St. Francis Xavier in Parkersburg, St. Francis of Assisi in St. Albans and of Wheeling Catholic Consolidated. She retired from St. James and St. Johns as a teacher.

Joan was also the Director of Religious Formation at St. Patrick Parish in Chesterton, IN and the Coordinator of Religious Formation at the former St. Mary's Parish in Wheeling.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her loving husband, William "Hank" Carp and two sisters, Rita Ann Brzuch and Sonia Marie Lewandoski.

Joan is survived by her niece, Michaeline Carp of Wheeling; nephew, Leonard J. (Kim) Lewandoski of Gilbert, AZ and cousins, Sandra Sberna of Wheeling and Barbara Sambuco of Rock Hill, SC.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, January 30, 2023 at 11 am at St. John Catholic Church, with Fr. Doney Chacko officiating. Interment will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
