Matthew "Matt" John McGovern, age 52, of Bethlehem, WV passed away Monday, January 9, 2023 at Liza's Place, Wheeling, WV.
He was born May 7, 1970 in Fairless Hills, PA.
Matt was a retired fireman from Wheeling Fire Department with 25 years of service and a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.
Matthew had an adventurous spirit and loved coaching soccer, enjoyed the outdoors and most importantly spending time with his beautiful children and true love, Erin.
He was a selfless person with a larger than life personality that made a lasting impression on all that knew him. Rest in peace Matthew, we are all better for knowing you.
He was preceded in death by his dad, John "Jack" McGovern.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Erin Minor McGovern; children, Amanda, Maxwell and Emma McGovern; his mother, Marlene Melko McGovern; one brother, Michael (Kim) McGovern ; one sister Marcie (Jason) Lehrke; four nieces and nephews, Michael, Jr., and Sean McGovern, Alex and Jessica Lehrke; father and mother-in-law, Denis & Thelma Minor; two brothers-in-law, Todd and Kyle (Christopher) Minor.
Family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and Friday from 12-8 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home, 1 Ridgecrest Road, Bethlehem/Wheeling.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 690 Mt. Olivet Road, Wheeling, WV, with Fr. Dennis Schuelkens as celebrant.
Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
