Charles G. "Chuck" Hood, 75, of Wheeling, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Wheeling Hospital.
He was born September 5, 1947, in Wheeling Hospital, son of the late Victor and Mary Elizabeth Welshans Hood.
He was a graduate of Triadelphia High School, West Virginia Northern Community College with an A.A.S. degree and West Liberty State College with a B.S. degree. Chuck also attended the West Virginia State Police Academy. He was a Navy Veteran, having served on the U.S.S. Forrestal.
A Presbyterian by faith, Chuck was the ultimate volunteer, serving the community his entire life through many civic organizations. He was the Charter President of the Ohio Valley Jaycees; Regional Director of the WV Jaycees; Senator of Jaycees International; State Telethon Director of the Muscular Dystrophy Association; Executive Board Member of the Ohio River Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America; Cubmaster/Chairman of Cub Scout Pack #13; Fraternal Order of Police Wheeling Lodge #38. He was also a member of the Warwood Veterans Association; Ohio County Wildlife League; Warwood Lions Club; Past President of United Cerebral Palsy of Ohio Valley; Board Member of the Sexual Assault Help Center; Member of the WV HRC Hate Crimes Task Force; and Chairman of the City of Wheeling Human Rights Commission. His professional career included extensive experience in the automotive and law enforcement professions.
Chuck's special passion was Notre Dame football, attending home or away games often with his sons, relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Dolores "Dee" Cooper.
Surviving is his loving wife of 47 years, Christine Lee Dailer Hood; three sons, James Edward (Leslie) Hood of Reynoldsburg, OH; David Hood and C. Christopher Hood both of Wheeling; "daughter" Julie Hood of Wheeling; four grandchildren, Brady, Cooper, Mackenzie and Jaxon Hood; one sister, Vici (Russ) Hamm; several nieces and nephews. Among numerous longtime friendships, Chuck enjoyed a special relationship with Lambert T. and Marion Jones.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 900 National Road, Wheeling, WV 26003 (304 232-2732) where services will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Tom Renfrow officiating.
Moundsville Veteran Honor Guard will provide full military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post #1, Circus Saints & Sinners, or Ohio River Valley Council of Boy Scouts of America.
