DENZEL BIBEY

Denzel Boyd Bibey, 92, of Wheeling, WV passed away peacefully on March 22, 2023, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

He was born on September 16, 1930, son of the late Denzel and Neva (Douglas) Bibey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Helen "Jeri" Bibey, brother Don Bibey, brother- in-law Richard "Dick" Cameron, and daughter-in-law Kathy Bibey.

He is survived by his sons Dave, of Pittsburgh, PA and Lance (Joyce), of Wheeling, WV; grandchildren Brian (Kim) Bibey, Christopher (Nicolette) Bibey, and Jenna (Nick) Muncie all of Pittsburgh, PA and Boyd and Lane Bibey of Wheeling, WV; five great grandchildren; sister Sharon Cameron of Wheeling, WV; sister-in-law Gwen Bibey of St. Clairsville; and many nieces, nephews, and friends, whom he treasured.

Denzel proudly served in the US Marine Corps and worked for nearly 50 years for the Exley family at Ohio Valley Drug, now known as Cardinal Health. He was on the Board of Directors for the Chambers YMCA and a member of the Warwood Vets.

To say he loved coaching the Warwood Redbirds Baseball teams from the 1960s-80s is an understatement. Even when his mind wasn't as sharp as it used to be he would recall, in detail, entertaining stories of the good ole' Island rivalry games and the many talented young men he coached on and off the field.

Nothing gave him more joy then when his family and friends visited, reminiscing about local sports, UNC basketball, WVU football, and harmless shenanigans -- and of course while throwing in his wisdom like how you have to be willing to be the one who sweeps the floors, put in the extra work ALWAYS, help others expecting nothing in return, and be grateful and ready when you get called up to be in the "game" be it sports, work, or life.

Friends and family will be received Monday, March 27, 2023 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at noon at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, WV. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling, WV.
