Genevieve Ann Dziengeleski Fisher, 82, born May 6, 1940, in Wheeling, WV, died March 20, 2023 at Hubbard House in Charleston, WV.
Genia (Jean) graduated from St. Ladislaus Polish Grade, 1954 and St. Joseph's Academy, 1958. Following graduation, she worked as a secretary to D. Paul Camilletti Esp. until joining Wheeling Steel Corp. (WPSC) in 1959. In 1960 Jean married Bill Fisher at St. Ladislaus Polish Church and began their family.
Genia was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Sophie Dziengeleski; her husband, William Henry Fisher; her daughter, Patricia Ann Fisher; cousins, Betty Gavarkavich Poludniak, Andy Dzinglski and Stella Baginski; and Godmother, Lola Pakron Pastors.
Genia is survived by daughter, Jeanette Bowlby (Floyd) of Ripley, WV; son, William Henry Fisher, Jr. of Cross Lanes, WV; grand-children, Samantha Amberetta and Alexandra Suzanne Fisher, Margaret Sophie and Matthew Joseph Bowlby; great-grandchild, Aiden LoGuidice; sister, Bonnie Wiegand; brother, Francis Walter Geleski (Roxanne); nieces and nephews, Joseph Wiegand, Jean Ann Wiegand Hamlin, Robert Wiegand (Cindy), John Geleski, Kelly Geleski Vogel (Ken), Amy Geleski Bonson (Wade), Edward Fisher (Patty), Rick Fisher (Christine), Rob Fisher, Betsy Kotowski (Raymond), Robin Freeman (James); great-nieces and -nephews Jennifer, Elizabeth, Catherine, Sophia Bea, and Gwen Sylvia Wiegand, Ben Hamlin, Richie Gibson, Olivia and Nicholas Bonson.
Jean worked for WPSC until retirement in 2001. While working for WPSC, Jean was president of the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Management Association (NMA). She initiated the OV Chapter of NMA sponsored speech contests for high school seniors. Jean was promoted to Forms Designer then Systems Engineer I. Through the WPSC's "Tuition refund" program Jean received her BA in 1993 from Wheeling Jesuit University. Jean also taught community education at WVNCC, Wheeling Park High School and WV Business College, teaching word processing and keyboarding classes as well as English. After retirement Jean continued to work and teach.
Jean was active as a Christian Mother at St. Joan of Arc Parish and St. Alphonsus Parish in Wheeling. She was extremely proud of her Polish heritage, serving as secretary of the St. Lad's Ladies Guild, secretary at the South Wheeling Preservation Alliance (SWPA), singing at St. Al's monthly Polish Mass, coordinating annual programs at the Our Lady of Grace Grotto on Memorial Day, the October Fatima Rosary Rally, and the annual Polish Day sponsored by the PAP Club.
Jean loved her family, her many friends and knew no strangers. She loved to dance, sew, bake, act and participate in church functions. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's memory to the Soup Kitchen of Greater Wheeling or St. Matthew Catholic Church, Ravenswood, WV.
Visitation will be held on April 1, at 9:30 am at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Wheeling, WV, followed by a memorial mass at 10:30 am with Fr. Joseph Wiley as celebrant.
