Joseph Richard Olejasz, 88, of Warwood passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2023.
He was born July 10, 1934, in Glenn Robbins, OH, son of the late Chester and Anna Sinichko Olejasz.
Joe moved to Windsor Heights then to Warwood while in grade school where he has been a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church for decades. He graduated from Wheeling Central in 1952.
Joe proudly enlisted and served in the US Marine Corps (1956- 1958), worked for Sylvania (1959-1969) and began working for Weirton Steel in 1969 until he retired in 1993. After retirement, he volunteered at Catholic Charities of Wheeling for more than 15 years. He really enjoyed going to school concerts to listen to his grandchildren play musical instruments and watching ball games of every sort. He particularly loved Wheeling Central sports and he always went to watch games with his friend, Ray Mascolino.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Chester Olejasz; two sisters, Elizabeth (Betty) Kostival and Barbara Zeik; brother-in-laws, Bill Ickler, Brad Lawson, Ralph Jenkins, Roger Jenkins and Geech Green; and one sister-in-law, Alice Ickler.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Genevieve "Jenny" Jenkins Olejasz; their four children, Diana (Dusty) Howell, JR (Karen) Olejasz, Aimee (Fabienne) Olejasz and Tracy (Ron) Mountford; his youngest brother, Charles (Suzanne) Olejasz; sister-in-laws, JoAnne Olejasz, Barb Lawson, Jackie Green and Barb Jenkins; brother-in-law, Carl (Becky) Jenkins; four grandchildren, Bryan Olejasz, Nate Mountford, Anna and Mahayla Olejasz; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Sunday, March 5, 2023 from 1 – 6 PM with a Rosary Service at 5:30 PM at Kepner Funeral Home, Burke Chapel, 2101 Warwood Ave., Wheel ing, WV 26003 (304-277-2722). Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 6, 2023 at 10 AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Father Paul M., C.S.T as celebrant. Entombment to follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery mausoleum. A luncheon will follow at the Corpus Christi Parish Center.
