Linda Lee Hawkins Stocke, 80, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2023 after a brief illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Wheeling and loved to work with children. For the majority of her adult life, she ran an in-home daycare and helped to shape many children into generous and kind young adults. In recent years, many of these children, now adults, came to visit her and reminisce.
Linda taught herself many types of crafts and she was very talented. Her delicious cakes were always in demand, and she loved to cross-stitch, make wreaths, bake cookies, sing, write stories, paint, and decorate for the holidays. She always spread the holiday spirit, no matter the season.
Her kind and bubbly personality made it easy to have many friends and she loved to spend time and laugh with them. In particular, she enjoyed great friendships with the "Bungee Club" and her high school reunion friends. Most of all, she and her best friend/surrogate sister, Sandy Hendershot Jarvis, were forever friends and they shared life's good and bad times together. Through it all, they simply enjoyed being themselves in their truest form.
Linda is survived by her loving daughter, Amy (Nelson) Anderson; and her only grandchild, Olivia Anderson, all of Preston, MD. Also, she leaves behind her brother, Dick Hawkins; lots of nieces and nephews from the Hawkins side; and many of her husband's family members who considered her to be an integral part of the Stocke family.
Friends and family will be received Monday, March 20, 2023 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM with a Vigil Service at 7 PM at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St., Wheeling WV 26003 (304-242- 2311). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 10 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Parish with Rev. Jesson Stephan as celebrant. Interment to follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Compass Regional Hospice in Centreville, MD.
