MICHELLE “MICKEY” CHURILLA

Michelle (Mickey) Ann Mooney Churilla, 84, of Wheeling, West Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at WVU Medicine-Wheeling Hospital.

She was born January 17, 1939, to Norma Corkum Hogan and was the adopted daughter of the late Paul and Gladys Mooney.

Mickey started her career with the Association of Surety & Casualty Companies in Washington, D.C., where she met her best friend and husband of 64 years, Martin (Marty) Andrew Churilla, and went on to become co-owner of Wedding & Party Planners in Houston, Texas, among other roles, including that of full-time devoted mother to her two sons, Mark and David Churilla.

Mickey is survived by her adoring husband Marty; two sons, Mark (Jeanine Pollard) Churilla and David (Kimberly) Churilla, four grandchildren, Courtney, Austin, Abbigail and Andrew Churilla; sister-in-law Polly Churilla; brother-in-law, Ronald (Karen) Churilla; and several nieces, nephews, and grand dogs. In addition to her adoptive parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Richard Churilla.

She was a loving mother, devoted volunteer at WVU Medicine-Wheeling Hospital, and member of the Wheeling Newcomers Club and St. Michael Catholic Church. She was a 40-year plus (!) survivor of breast cancer.

She loved being outside and sitting on her back deck reading, doing her crosswords, and watching the various birds she fed (the hummingbirds being her favorite), and sipping a nice glass of wine with her beloved husband, Marty.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 6, 2023, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1225 National Road, Wheeling, WV at 11:00 AM with Father Carlos Melocoton, Jr. as celebrant.
