Grace Hadjis Kamis, 90, of Wheeling, WV, died Saturday, April 1, 2023.
She was born April 8, 1932, in Cincinnati, OH, daughter of the late Alex and Hariclia Sakalarides Hadjis.
Grace was a devoted member of St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church. She served as an officer and chaired several committees for both the Ladies Philoptochos Society and the Daughters of Penelope.
She loved playing tennis and played until she was 80 years old. She and her husband played doubles for years and made many lifelong friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Harry W. Kamis; brothers, Dr. James Hadjis and LTC(R) John Hadjis; her beloved baby sister, Elizabeth Hadjis Kademenos; and her niece, Julia Sapon.
She is survived by her children of whom she was very proud of, William (Tina) Kamis of North Carolina, Alex Kamis of California and George (Tracy) Kamis of Virginia; grandchildren, Marlee, Katherine, Christina (Drew) and Alexandra; and her nephews, Dr. Pete (Angie) Sapon and Dr. William (Sherry) Sapon, who were always there for her.
Friends and family will be received Tuesday, April 4, 2023 from 5-8 p.m. with a Trisagion Service at 7:30 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St., Wheeling, WV 26003; 304-242-2311. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church with Father Demetrios Tsikouris officiating. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church for the Sanctuary Fund that meant so much to her sister, Elizabeth.
