JAMES GILLIGAN

James Michael Gilligan, 71, of Wheeling, passed away at home on Friday, April 14, 2023.

He was born in Charleston, WV, on July 21, 1951, son of the late William L. and Ruth Boggs Gilligan.

Jim was retired from PPG Industries and a faithful member of St. Michael Parish, where he was lector and involved in the Serra Club, Adoration, and many other ministries. Jim had what his mother would have called orneriness. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a contagious smile, a keen intellect and an easy going demeanor, all wrapped together with undeniable charm. More significantly, Jim was a kind and warm person, a dutiful father and grandfather, and a dedicated husband.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Donna Wenrick Gilligan.

Surviving is his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Cindy Myslinsky Gilligan; three children, Melissa (John) Peters of Cranberry Township, PA, Timothy J. (Keely Griffin) Gilligan of West Chester, PA, and Erin (Sean) Calangelo of Pittsburgh, PA; three grandchildren, Benjamin and Alex Peters, and Delia Calangelo; two brothers, Tom Gilligan, and Rob (Karen) Gilligan; numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited for visitation to Kepner Funeral Home, 900 National Road, Wheeling, WV 26003 (304-232-2732) Wednesday, April 19, 2023, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. with a rosary devotion at 5:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 20, 2023, at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Carlos Melocoton officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jim's memory to Catholic Charities, 2000 Main Street, Wheeling, WV 26003, or St. Michael Catholic Church, 1225 National Road, Wheeling, WV 26003.
