DOROTHY GRIFFITH

Dorothy Vercellotti Griffith, 97, of Wheeling, WV, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family.

During her life, Dorothy was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great – grandmother. She was a dedicated homemaker, an artisan of crocheted blankets, a professional seamstress, and avid golfer. She is cherished by her family and her love will live on through them.

Dorothy was born August 30, 1925 in Elm Grove, WV, daughter of the late Vincent and Celestina (Borre) Vercellotti. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Vincent Griffith, and her half-siblings Constance Vercellotti Kent and John Vercellotti.

She is survived by her sisters Norma Vercellotti Griffith and Dena Vercellotti Stowell; children, Sandra Griffith (Dave Osmer), Vincent (Rita) Griffith, Jr., Cindy (Bill) Heimbaugh, Linda (Steve) Kolas and Louis (Karen) Griffith; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received 3:00 p.m. until time of prayer service at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Altmeyer Funeral Homes' Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, May 12, 2023, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling, with Rev. Carlos L. Melocoton Jr. as celebrant. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.

Her family would like to thank her personal caregivers and the Amedisys Hospice staff for their dedicated, kind, and sensitive care.
