Dr. Henry L. "Hank" Kettler, MD, age 79, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling after a long illness.
He was born December 4, 1943 in Wheeling, WV son of the late Henry E. and Anna Mae Smith Kettler.
He was a graduate of Wheeling High School, Washington & Jefferson College and WVU School of Medicine. He served his internship at Hartford Hospital, 2 years as a captain in U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed at Westover Air Force Base, then back to WVU, for 3 years, to serve a residency in Neurology. He then moved to Wheeling, where he practiced at the Wheeling Clinic for over 40 years.
Hank was an avid fisherman, for years, enjoyed skiing and scuba diving with his sons. He was a member of the WV Board of Medicine, American Academy of Neurology, American Society of Neuroimaging, American Academy of Thermology, American Cancer Society, Crippled Children's of Wheeling, St. Paul's Evangelical Church, Wheeling and was an integral part of starting the EMG Lab and Sleep Studies.
He served numerous people in the Valley, in many different ways, during his 40 plus years as an active member of the community.
Survivors include his wife, of 56 years, Patricia King Kettler; three sons: Todd (Johnna Grasso) Kettler of St. James, NY, Jeffrey (Kim) Kettler of Castleberry, FL and Kevin (Dr. Karen) Kettler of Wheeling; three grand- children: Sebastian, Violet and Samuel "Sammy" Kettler and several nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 1 Ridgecrest Road, Bethlehem/ Wheeling where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00am with Pastor Mark Zelewicz officiating, followed by the Moundsville Honor Guard conducting Military services.
Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family at Mt. Olivet Ceme- tery, Wheeling.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Association for Cancer Research, 122. S. High St., Morgantown, WV 26501 or the Alzheimers Disease Assoc., 1601-2nd Ave., Charleston, WV 25387.
