Florence "Jean" (Throckmorton) Strahl, 97, of Bethlehem, Wheeling, WV, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.
She was born on September 24, 1925 in Washington, PA. Jean grew up as a country girl on a working farm in Prosperity, PA, where she nurtured her love of animals, especially horses. She attended school, grades 1 through 11, in Washington. She moved to Wheeling in 1943 and was a 1944 graduate of Wheeling High School. After graduation, Jean was employed by Sears and Roebuck in Wheeling. The career that was most important to her was that of daughter, wife, mom, grandma, great- grandma, aunt, sister-in-law (or sister 'out-law' as she jokingly referred to herself) and friend. She also took very seriously her role as 'Honorary Mom' and 'Honorary Grandma' to the multiple friends of her daughters and grandchildren.
Jean was a member of the Bethlehem United Presbyterian Church.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret 'Romaine' (Throckmorton) Keim and Dr. Charles Zane Keim; her husband, Joel Austin (Aussie) Strahl; her cousin, Sara (Hughes) Falosk, and her many in-laws and friends.
She is survived by her 2 daughters, Judy (Brian) Harbin of Gilbert, AZ and Sara Strahl of Bethlehem; 4 grandchildren, Alyson (Warren) Clement, Zachary Harbin, Josh Strahl and Chelsea Vielma; 4 great- grandchildren Jacob, Lucas, and Alex Clement and Mason Vielma, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday May 20, 2023 from 1pm until the time of the service at 2pm at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street Wheeling, WV, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery to follow.
