FRED ABRAHAM

Fred Abraham, 97, of Wheeling, WV passed away peacefully Friday, April 28, 2023 at Liza's Place in Wheeling.

He was born March 15, 1926, son of the late Ellis and Dorothy (Makoul) Abraham.

Fred was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and greatgrandfather.

His life-long passion for basketball led him to play on the 1943 State Champion Basketball Team as a sophomore. He was drafted in 1944 before graduating and spent two years in the Navy. Upon discharge, he graduated from Wheeling High School; then from West Liberty State College with a degree in Chemistry.

He began his career at Cooke Waite Laboratories (Sterling Drug) and soon worked for PPG Industries where he retired after 56 years. At PPG, he held several positions: Analytical Development Chemist, Technical/Customer Service Chemist, Senior Research Chemist and Laboratory Manager as well as receiving many patents.

Along with enjoying vacations with his family, he attended NCAA basketball tournaments; watched football and enjoyed his grandchildren's basketball, track and soccer games.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy Mae (Brown) Abraham; daughter, Victoria Lynn Jebbia; brother, Edward Abraham; and sister, Helen Summers.

Surviving Fred is his daughter, Calleen (Timothy) Porter of St. Clairsville, OH; son, James (Beverly) Abraham of Hermitage, PA; sister, Betty O'Donnell and brother, William Joseph; son-in-law, Anthony Jebbia; five grandchildren: Staci Champlain, Christopher Porter, Scott Jebbia, Frederick Abraham & Jacqueline DeAngelo and 3 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice Care and his caregiver, Rosie Galiffa, who stayed by his bedside until his parting.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. A private celebration of his life will be held at the convenience of the family.
