Gerald W. Morris, Sr., 92, died peacefully on June 21,2023. He was born in Wheeling, WV on March 11, 1931 to Robert E. Morris, Sr. and Florence Fredricks Morris.
Gerald was known to many as Jerry or Mick. He was affectionately known as "Big Pap" to Kade, Bentlee, and Koen.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona McIntire Sprouse Morris, in 1999. A sister Roberta Tyras, four brothers, William Larue, Kenny Larue, Art Morris, and Donald Morris. A daughter Norma Baggott and a son Jerry Jr.
Jerry was well known in the Wheeling area for bowling at Elm Grove Lanes, umpiring in the Wheeling City Men's Baseball League, a lifetime member of the Cave Club and IOLA Club. He was a 60 year member of NALC Branch #66 letter carriers union.
He sang the Star Spangled Banner in many arenas. He left quite an impression and everyone was considered a friend. He was an avid Cleveland Browns Fan.
He loved his family, his country, fireworks, airplanes, singing, and telling jokes.
He was a true patriot. He proudly served in the Air Force during the Korean War from 1951-1955.
He held various jobs, but the one he took most pride in was being a mailman. He began his career in 1963 and retired in 1988.
Another love was his volunteer work. He volunteered for the St. James Food Pantry and Bell Ringer for Salvation Army, but his most cherished accomplishment was delivering meals for 18 years for Catholic Charities. It is estimated that he delivered 70,000 meals in his tenure.
This act of kindness, earned him the nomination for the Govenor of WV lifetime achievement award for volunteer in 2017. His daughters proudly stood beside as he accepted this prestigious award in Charleston.
Surviving are one brother, Robert E. Morris Jr., daughters Deborah (Arley) Shinsky, Maureen (Russ) Wagner, Grandchildre Jason(Andrea)Baggott, Jeff (Britney) Baggott, Christina (Eric) Harvilla, Tremenda Miklas, Matthew Shinsky, Nicole (Joshua) Glavaris, and Brady Wagner. Son-in-law Art Baggott and daughter-in-law, Susan Morris.
Special nephew Pul McIntire Jr, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Jerry continues his legacy of giving by donating his body to WVU Medical Research in Morgantown, WV.
