Josephine Louise Ruthers Taggart, 97, of Wheeling, WV, died Thursday, June 22, 2023 at her daughter's home.
She was born September 30, 1925, daughter of the late Lewis and Bessie White Ruthers.
Josephine was a member of the Short Creek United Methodist Church, where she formerly taught Sunday School, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star Miriam Chapter of Bethany, WV. She was also a former Brownie and 4-H Leader.
She was the matriarch of her beloved family, was generous to everyone she met and was the best egg noodle cooker around. There wasn't one day throughout the years that there wasn't a household of people at the homestead. She loved country singers, Dick and Chick from Short Creek, loved watching Wheel of Fortune and going on family vacations.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin M. Taggart in 2004; daughter, Brenda Kay Longwell in 2008; three sisters, Betty Radcliffe, Ruth Finsley and Martha Piehowicz; and four brothers, Richard, William, James and John Ruthers.
She is survived by her three children, John D. Taggart of Wheeling, Belinda D. (Randy) McCardle of Wheeling and C.J. (Julia) Taggart of Rock Hill, SC.; seven grandchildren, Shane, Brittney, Rebecca, Jeremiah, Stephanie, Patrick and Christopher; 14 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Patterson and Sarah (Ron) Dillon; two brothers, Thomas (Joyce) Ruthers and David Ruthers; best friend and sister-in-law, Lucille Ruthers; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received Sunday, June 25, 2023 from 12 PM – 3 PM and 5 -7 PM at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St., Wheeling, WV 26003 (304- 242-2311) and on Monday, June 26, 2023 from 10 AM until the time of service at 11 AM with Pastor Heather Rogers officiating at Short Creek United Methodist Church, 373 North Fork Rd., Wheeling, WV 26003.
Interment to follow in Short Creek Ceme- tery.
