SAMUEL KOSANOVIC

Samuel Alexander Kosanovic, 82, of Moundsville passed peacefully in the early morning hours of June 7, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital.

He was born on August 15, 1940, in Wheeling, WV, the son of Maxine Rabes Kosanovic and Michael Kosanovic.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Knapp Kosanovic; and his wonderful sister, Michele Ann Garvin (Larry Willming).

Along with Judy, he was blessed to raise three beautiful children, Edward Michael (Leslie) Kosanovic, Kathy (Bill) Wesolowski, and Christy Lauterbach. His children expanded his family to include six grandchildren who were the absolute light of his life. They are Kayla (Keith) Kongsjord, Samantha (Blake) Goodrum, Zachary (Abigail) Mucheck, PJ Lauterbach, Matthew Wesolowski, Lexie Kosanovic (fiance Elian) and Abby Lauterbach. He was further blessed with six great- grandchildren: Mason, Lydia, Ava, Harper, Ellie, and Miles.

He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and the College of Commerce. He and his wife started and operated a dairy farm for 17 years which has been a source of many family stories. Sam remained a successful businessman his entire life, due to his work ethic and his honesty. He truly viewed his employees as an extension of his family.

He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Moundsville and was an organ donor. Due to Sam's wishes, there will be a family-only service at Mt. Calvary. His wish was to be buried alongside his mother.

There is a saying, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."

Those that knew Sam were very familiar with his exuberant laugh and sharp wit. Therefore, all family and friends are invited to a "Celebration of Sam's Life." This will take place on Friday, June 30 at the Grisell Funeral Home at 400 Jefferson Avenue in Moundsville. We ask that you stop by any time between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. and encourage you to bring a "Sam Story" to share. In lieu of any flowers, feel free to donate to the American Heart Association, Central Catholic High School, and/or the Marshall County Animal Shelter.

Starting at /week.
