GERDA WILLIAMS

Gerda Lina (Stumpf) Williams, 86, of Wheeling, WV, was called to rest on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.

Gerda was born on October 25, 1936, in Wurzburg, Germany, a daughter of the late Hans and Maria (Muller) Stumpf.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Curtis A. Williams, Jr.; her son, Curtis A. Williams III; her daughter, Diana H. (Williams) Slabaugh; and her beloved grandson, Brandon Williams Slabaugh. She is also survived by her three sisters and their families in Germany; Hannelore Fuchs of Augsburg, Christel Muller of Nurnberg, and Erika Mauter of Hochberg.

Gerda lived through the traumatic events of WWII as a young child in Germany, including the Allied bombing of Wurzburg, on March 16, 1945. She met her husband when he was stationed at the Wurzburg Army base in the late 1950's. Gerda started her working career as a seamstress in Germany and carried that to the United States by first working at the Bobbie Brooks factory in Bellaire, then at Suzanne's Fashion Shop in Elm Grove, and later at Mull's Grocery on Route 88. However, much of her time and energy was spent taking care of her home and family on Peters Run.

Gerda was a Catholic by faith, but requested no visitation or services. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family at Park View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Valley Hospice, 10686 State Route 150, Rayland, OH 43943. The staff and facility at Liza's Place were invaluable during this very emotional and difficult time.
