Joan (McCulley) Whitehouse, lifelong resident of Wheeling, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 14 at age 93.
Born July 25, 1929 to the late Benjamin and Mary (Corkran) McCulley.
She is preceded in death by three daughters Mary Virginia Smereck, Bridget Wilson and an Angel baby, sisters Mary Margaret Metzger and Mildred Keedy, and brother Benny McCulley.
Surviving are daughters Jesse Larter and Nancy Bartlett and many grandchildren and great grand-children.
She attended Cath- edral Grade School and Saint Joseph's Academy. She spent the majority of her life at her beloved home at 44 13th Street where she raised four daugh- ters. She held several jobs including Loft's Candies, Elby's, and East Wheeling Convenient for nearly 40 years.
The destruction of her neighborhood weighed heavily on her when sharing countless stories of sorrow, love, laughter, and a life spent without a dull moment. She suffered hardships but was always known for being resilient, fiercely independent, and above all, motherly.
To know "Miss Whitehouse" was to love her dearly.
As per the family's wishes, there will be no public visitation.
