LYNN PHILLIPS

Lynn P. Phillips, of Freedom, born August 2, 1936 in Wheeling, WV, passed away on June 7, 2023. She was the daughter of Erna R. Thompson and James A. Porter. She was a graduate of Triadelphia High School and the Ohio Valley General Hospital School of Nursing. Lynn was employed by the Ohio Valley Medical Center for 45 years as a registered nurse. She held positions such as night supervisor, head nurse, and director of several departments, including EMSTAR, Outpatient Services, Utilization Review, Quality Assurance and Medical Staff Administration.

Lynn was heavily involved with the development of pre- hospital care in the Wheeling area to equip and train ambulance personnel to provide care to the ill and injured before arrival at the hospital. She was an EMT instructor for the WV Adult Education Program and taught many classes during her 17 years in the EMSTAR Department. She was employed by the WV Community College as a part time paramedic instructor. She served on the Board of Directors of the Ohio County Chapter of the American Heart Association and was an instructor in Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. She served as Secretary for the WV Chapter of the American Trauma Society and was certified as Coordinator for Advanced Trauma Life Support courses for physicians.

Lynn was a member of the Board of Directors of the Northern WV Office of Emergency Medical Services, which provided oversight of emergency services for a 5-county area. She also served as Board Member and President of the Ohio County Sexual Assault Help Center.

Lynn enjoyed spending time with friends and family, as well as playing games, especially Scrabble, cards, and dominoes.

Lynn was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Arthur Thompson, and her eldest son, Clint.

Surviving are her sister, Jill L. Bell; a son, Clay (Teresa) Phillips; a daughter, Erin (Alan) Sanderbeck; grandchildren, Erica, Kari, Ally, Casey, Paige and Connor; great grandchildren, Leo, Brady, Logan and Gavin; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear friends at Danbury Farms, especially Patti and Jerry Wright, Liz Iman, and Sarah Goode.

A family service will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling, but friends and family are welcome to join the family in a Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 12:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Generations Restaurant and Pub, 338 National Road, Wheeling, WV 26003.
