Michael D. Young, 78, of Glen Dale, WV, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 3, 2023. He is now "with his new best friend, Jesus Christ," as he expressed himself before his passing.
Michael has had the opportunity over the last several months to communicate his feelings to God and to thank Him for all that he has been given. He stated that he has had a wonderful life.
He was born March 14, 1945, son of the late Alvin and Mary Reass Young.
Michael was a 1963 graduate of Wheeling High School and a 1967 graduate of West Liberty State College. He spent two years in the United States Army, worked for State Farm for 38 years, and after retirement, spent 14 years as a charter boat captain on his boat, Roxanne II, on Lake Erie out of Ashtabula, OH. Michael was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish in Mt. Olivet. He was also a lifetime member of IOLA and Cave Clubs and a member of the American Legion Post 1.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, John and William Young; father-in-law, John Voyda; and mother- in-law, Rose Shemon Voyda.
Michael was blessed with a loving wife of 56 years, Carol Voyda Young of Glen Dale; daughter, Michelle (Mario) Vidikan and two grandchildren, Keira Grace and Porter David, all of Beavercreek, OH; sister- in-law, Debbie (Stanley) Richmond of Dublin, OH; and brother-in-law, John (Darlene) Voyda of Naples, FL. He considered his family, friends, and neighbors blessings from God.
Family and friends will be received Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 2 p.m. until the time of memorial service at 4 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St., Wheeling, WV 26003 (304-242-2311).
Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, will be held at the convenience of the family.
