Rena Smith Malson, age 93, passed away, Monday, July 24, 2023 at Wheeling Hospital.
She was born April 15, 1930, in Wheeling, a daughter of the late Joseph and Laura (Bohlman) Carl. Rena was a longtime member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and a graduate of Wheeling High School.
She had a career as a book keeper working for Blaw-Knox, Wheeling Linen, the McClure Hotel, Dr. William Barton, and the Fort Henry Club.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her siblings, Edna Carl, Evelyn (Harry) Frazier, Richard (Stella) Carl, Sr., and Robert B. Carl, and husbands Robert M. Smith, Lawrence Malson, and John Geary.
She is survived by her children and step-children: Timothy (Cary) McDonough, Richard (Christy) English, Dot English, Cheryl (George) Melnik, Rob Smith, Cindy (Dennis) Usenick, and Matthew (Susan) Smith, her sister-in- law, Dolores "Doty" Carl; numerous grand children and step- grandchildren, including, Ian (Kaylie) English, James English, Lisa Melnik, Cortne (Andrew) Pierce, Trevor Smith, Kent Smith, Ashley (John) Stover, and Meleah Wood and several nieces, and nephews.
Family and friends will be received Friday, July 28, 2023 from 2 pm until time of service at 4 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Homes, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling.
