Sue Thieroff Mendenhall passed away Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Wheeling Hospital. She was born on July 9, 1930, in Wheeling, WV, daughter of the late George E. and Adelaide Vieweg Thieroff.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Robert W. Mendenhall; her sister, Andrea Thieroff; sisters and brothers in laws, Ruth and Harry Foose, and Sally and Harry (Tiny) Holmes; her sister, Adelaide Luchetti, her brother, George V. Thieroff; nephew, David A. Thieroff, and her brother and sister- in-law, Dr. James and Mickey Mendenhall.
Sue graduated from Triadelphia High School and West Virginia University where she was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. It was there that she met her husband, Robert. She was a long-time member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Wheeling, a past member of The Junior League of Wheeling, a past volunteer at The Russell Nesbitt Center, and a member of the OVMC Poinsettia Twig.
She is survived by her children, Sandra (Rob) Brunswick of Bridgeport, WV, George (Kathy) Mendenhall of Peterstownship, PA, Robert (Marlene) Mendenhall of St. Petersburg, FL, and Thomas (Cheryl) Mendenhall of Wheeling, WV; her grandchildren, Andie, Robbie, Will, and Tommie Brunswick, Mackenzie, Robert, and Emily Mendenhall, and Bobby, Dr. Eric (Allie), and Dr. Lee Mendenhall; great grand- children, Samuel, William, and Caroline Mendenhall (due in November); brother- in-law, Robert Luchetti; sister-in-law, Darlene Thieroff; numer- ous nieces and nephews she stayed close to; and many special friends of her children who thought of her as their mother as well.
A private service and interment were held in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, WV.
