Shirley Louise Gump, 88, of Moundsville WV passed away August 4, 2023, at Liza's Place, Wheeling WV
She was born in Belmont County, Ohio on May 9, 1935, as the daughter of the late Clifford and Della Mae (Walters) Dilly.
Shirley was a Christian by faith and retired from the Marshall County School System as a bus driver after 17 years of service. Shirley had a great love of music and was an accomplished singer and guitar player. She started her career in the All Girl country and western band. She was the lead singer of the NBC Band she formed with her late husband, Floyd Gump, and many other local musicians. She loved playing music on stage at local venues. She entertained the people of Marshall County with her monthly music sessions in the Highland Machine Shop and later at the Floyd Gump Pavilion.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd E. Gump Sr; her sisters, Marjorie Street, and Audrey Mellott; and her brother, Cyril Loyd Dilly.
Shirley is survived by her children, Ronald "Monk" (LeeAnn) Smith; Jim (Deby) Smith; Tina Ewing; Floyd E. Gump Jr. (Robin); her brothers, Orville Dilly and Sonny (Suzie) Dilly; her grandchildren, Kelli Jo; Jesse, Dalton, Ronni Louise, Britney (Josh), Josh (Amanda), Zach (Lauren, Matthew (Bethany); her great-grandchildren, Jillian, Janaya, Rikell, Blake, Brock, Hunter, Fisher, Remington, Jonathan, Bowen, Sophia, Evangeline, Pehyton, and Kendall. Also left behind are her dear friends, Linda Macri, Joanne Blake, and others. She will be desperately missed by all whose lives she touched.
Family and friends will be received Monday, August 7, 2023, from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 5 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville, WV, with Pastor Michael Rowe officiating.
