Gloria Marie Seidel Hough, 96, of Wheeling, WV, passed away Monday, September 25, 2023 at her home.
She was born April 15, 1927, in Wheeling, WV, daughter of the late Harry Seidel and Jaletta Sligar Seidel Shilling.
Gloria was a faithful member and active parishioner of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church for more than 65 years. She was passionate about the YWCA & Soup Kitchen of Wheeling and their missions, and also a philanthropist to many other non-profit organizations that benefit the well-being of others.
She played the piano and would sing and dance at the Capitol Music Hall in her youth.
She was a terrific cook and loved to entertain, also an enthusiastic horticulturalist, an avid reader and a spirited fan of all sports, although she most enjoyed watching her grandchildren play ball.
Above all, she loved her family near and far. Her care and encouragement of her loved ones was unmatched.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Melvin Hough in 1995; brother, William "Billy" Shilling; sister, Joanne Shilling; stepfather, William "Shill" Shilling; and an uncle and several aunts.
Gloria is survived by her 4 daughters, Saundra Hough of Wheeling, WV, Cheri Dague Matesic of Wheeling, WV, Beverly (Edward) Sampson of Colu- mbus, OH & Kimberly (Jeffrey) Griffith of Wheeling, WV; 8 grandchildren, Stacie (Jeff) Koontz, Brienne (Taylor) Sargent, Charli (Soloman) Dixon, Jeremy (Angela) Sampson, Niki Sampson, Michelle (John) Brooks, Holli (Kevin) Junkins & Aaron Griffith; 15 great-grand- children; sister, Becky (Scott) Rodocker; and several nieces & nephews.
Friends will be received Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Kepner Funeral Homes, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV (304-242-2311). Services will be held Friday, September 29, 2023 at 12:30 PM at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 162 Fairmont Pike Road, Wheeling, WV with Brother David Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
