LAWRENCE MARKEY

Lawrence Eugene Markey, a beloved member of the Marshall County community, passed away on August 30, 2023, at the age of 89.

He was born on April 22, 1934, in Glen Dale, West Virginia, to Harold Vincent and Dorothy (Klages) Markey.

Lawrence dedicated his career to serving his community as a retired line foreman with Wheeling Power (AEP). He also worked for many decades at Kennedy Hardware.

In addition to his professional achievements, Lawrence had a passion for supporting the Marshall County Livestock Club in Moundsville, WV. He believed in the importance of fostering growth and opportunities for young individuals.

Lawrence's faith was an integral part of his life, as he was a devoted member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Glen Dale, WV. He was also a volunteer for Catholic Charities and Appalachian Outreach.

During his younger years, Lawrence served his country in the U.S. Army.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nila Jean (Berisford) Markey, as well as his parents, Harold Vincent and Dorothy (Klages) Markey, his brother, Harold Thomas Markey, and sisters Mary Marling and Ellen Markey.

Lawrence leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his daughter, Vickie Markey-Tekely and her husband Jim; his son, Sean V. Markey; and his granddaughter, Lauren M. Tekely, and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation hours on Wednesday, September 6, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, located at 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 7, at 11 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church in Glen Dale, WV. Following the service, Lawrence will be laid to rest in Halcyon Hills Memorial Gardens, Sherrard, WV.

Lawrence Eugene Markey will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, dedication, and unwavering love for his family and community will forever remain in our hearts. May he rest in eternal peace.
