BERNARD DELBRUGGE SR.

Bernard William Delbrugge Sr., lovingly known as Bernie, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2023. Born on October 10, 1928, in Bridgeport, OH, Bernie lived a fulfilling life of 95 years.

Bernie dedicated many years of his life to serving the Ohio County Public Schools as a Head Custodian. His hard work and dedication were greatly appreciated by all who knew him.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Eleanor (Worstell) Delbrugge, his beloved wife Jule Ann (Mattern) Delbrugge, his brother Melvin Delbrugge, and his granddaughter Lindsey Haught.

Left to cherish Bernie's memory are his daughters, Ruth Ann (Bob) Stoehr and Phyllis (Joe) Miller, both of Wheeling, WV, and his son, Bernard "Bill" (Pam) Delbrugge of Jefferson, OH. He is also survived by his brother- in-law Edwin Mattern, ten grandchildren, sixteen great – grand children, and many more family and friends.

A gathering for family and friends will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023, from 4-7 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, located at 154 Kruger Street in Wheeling.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Tuesday, October 31, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Following the service, Bernie will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Congregation of St. Joseph, formerly known as the Sisters of St. Joseph, a cause close to Bernie's heart.

Bernie will be remembered for his dedication, love for his family, and his unwavering commitment to his work. His presence will be greatly missed, and his memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
