GEORGE VIEWEG III

George B. Vieweg, III of Charleston, West Virginia passed away on October 7, 2023. He was recovering from a massive stroke near family in the Upstate of South Carolina when he passed away.

The son of George B. Vieweg, Jr and Frances H. Vieweg, Mr. Vieweg was born in Wheeling, WV, and lived there much of his life. He was a graduate of Linsly Military Institute (1957), West Virginia University (1961) and West Virginia University School of Law (1964). He practiced with the law firm of Petropolis, Bailey and Byrum in Wheeling, the law office George A. Daugherty, the law firm of Lester, Bayliss and Phalen in Charleston, and he retired from the practice of law while working with the law office of D. Randall Clarke.

George was a member of AA for over 40 years and it was paramount to the foundation of his decades long sobriety. He met and married his wife, Lou Henri Vieweg, to whom he was devoted for more than 30 years. They lived in Charleston, WV where he lovingly cared for her until her death six years ago. He was a Christian by faith. He was a lifelong fan of WVU. Hail WV! He was a member of the Athletic Counsel at West Virginia University and former President of the West Virginia Alumni Association. He was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters and a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.

Mrs. Lou Henri Vieweg preceded her husband in death. He had three children, his oldest daughter the late Roberta Vieweg Rhodes (Lance Rhodes), his son George B. Vieweg, IV (Brenda) and his daughter, Gwendolyn Jane Vieweg. He is survived by his only brother, William F. Vieweg and his wife Susan Clarke Vieweg along with their children, Kristen Vieweg and Jennifer Vieweg. He has been blessed with six grandchildren, Curtis "Rett" Rhodes, Erin Ashley Petersen, Christian M. Vieweg, Kimberly Vieweg Sherrill, Stephanie Vieweg Forrester, Rachel E. Murphy and six great grandchildren, Adalynn Roberta Petersen, Azariah Richard Petersen, Emerson Chrisman Sherrill, Jane Alexandra Rhodes, Emmett Vincent Rhodes, Ellie Jane Forrester and new baby girl Sherrill expected April 2024. He is also survived by his cousins, Ike and Betty Maxwell of Lost Creek, WV and Charlie and Alice Maxwell of Hilton, NY.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Activities fund at Brookstone Terrace of Woodruff, SC located at 80 Medical Center Drive, Woodruff, SC 29388. At the time of his death, George was preparing to participate in the Annual Drive to fund activities for the facility. This fund allows the residents to be entertained all year and its success was important to him, or you can donate to WVU Foundation, One Water Front Place, P.O. 1650, Morgantown, WV 26507-9939.

In consideration of the family, a graveside service will be announced at a later date. Interment will be held in Wheeling, WV at Greenwood Cemetery.
