Gertrude Irene Saliga, 86, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away on October 12, 2023, in Wheeling. She was born on August 19, 1937, in Wheeling, the daughter of Ralph and Rena (Tyson) Davis.
Gertrude lived a life filled with love and devotion to her family. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, quilting, and crocheting, and she crafted many quilts for women in need in the Wheeling area.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her dear husband, Stephen F. Saliga in 2020; her brother Ralph Davis (Linda); her sister Mary King (William); her sister Peggy Merinar; her sister Patty Weiss (Robert); and her parents.
She is survived by her daughter Denise Saliga and her husband Eric Fox of Richmond, Virginia; her daughter Patti Lizzo of Ellicott City, Maryland; her daughter Terri Blake and her husband Buddy of Moundsville; Chris Lizzo of Ellicott City, Maryland; and her brother-in-law William Merinar of Wheeling, West Virginia. Gertrude was also blessed with six grandchildren: Alison, Cole, Stephanie, Tyler, Ben, and Zach; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, Gertrude's life will be honored at Altmeyer Funeral Home-Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Krueger St., with a visitation from 10 a.m. to noon and a service officiated by Mike Eskridge at noon. Directly following the service, Gertrude will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery.
