JOHN “JACK” SCHUETZ

John "Jack" Joseph Schuetz, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away on October 11, 2023 in Wheeling, WV at the age of 87. He was born on May 9, 1936 in Wheeling, WV to the late John William Schuetz and Agnes Moore Schuetz.

Jack dedicated 30 years of his life as a self-employed State Farm Insurance Agent, providing invaluable service to his clients. His commitment and hard work earned him the respect and admiration of many in the community.

Throughout his life, Jack's passion for athletics and dedication to his alma mater, West Liberty University, were evident. He was honored as a member of the West Liberty University Athletic Hall of Fame and received the prestigious 1961 Student Athlete Award. He also was honored as a member of the Corpus Christi Hall of Fame.

Jack will be remembered as a beloved mentor, coach, and faithful servant to his family, through his work, and to so many people in his community. The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Valley Hospice and their sister, Jennifer, owner of Over The Rainbow, for providing assisted living services.

Jack was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 1/2 years, Sandra "Sandy" Gay (Young) Schuetz. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his children: Michael (Shaye) Schuetz of St. Clairsville, OH; Mark (Annette) Schuetz of LaBelle, FL; Laurie (Ray) Thompson of Kingwood, WV; Lisa (Brian) Sorge of Warwood, WV; Lynn (Luke) Sisarcick of Zanesville, OH; and Jennifer (David) Lloyd of Bethlehem, WV. He was a cherished grandfather to 12 grandchildren: Sarah (Freddy) Maurath, Adam Ryder, Rachel Schuetz, Jordan (Kelsey) Sorge, Nick (Trena) Schuetz, T.J. (Paige) Thompson, Cody (Virginia) Thompson, Cassie (Neal) Ford, John Michael (Cayla) Schuetz, Julee Schuetz, Cameron Lloyd, and Corrine Lloyd. Jack also had the joy of being a great-grandfather to five great grandchildren: Daxxton Taylor, Jace Sorge, Jayden Thompson, Tristan Thompson, and Penelope Ford.

A celebration of our biggest cheerleader and our rock will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV. Friends will be received from 1 p.m. until the time of services at 4 p.m., with his grandson, John Michael Schuetz, officiating. Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Wheeling at a later date.
